Prof. Geoffrey D. Smith
Geoffrey received his B.S. in Chemistry from Caltech (1995) where he worked in the labs of Prof. Vince McCoy and Prof. Ahmed Zewail. In 2000, he received his Ph.D. from M.I.T. where he worked with Prof. Mario Molina studying gas-phase kinetics and photolysis using chemical ionization mass spectrometry. As a post-doctoral researcher with Profs. Tom Baer and Roger Miller at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he studied heterogenous particle reactions using a single-particle aerosol mass spectrometer from 2000 to 2002. He has been on the faculty of the Chemistry Department at the University of Georgia since 2002.

John Allen
John earned his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Georgia in 2021 before joinng the Smithlab in 2023. He is working on a joint project with the Rotavera group to use machine learning with VUV absorption spectra to identify molecular moieties of combustion intermediates. He is also using SP2 data to study how coatings alter biomass burning aerosol optical properties.
